Monica Munga is the only Para athlete representative for Zambia at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games. She joined the national team in 2012 and this is her first Paralympic Games experience. She is competing in 400m (T13). She hopes to compete in the final and is willing to learn from the experience to improve her skills for future Paralympic Games.

Monica is a role model for the Para Sport Against Stigma project which IPC, NPC Zambia alongside the government of Zambia who worked coherently to deliver education programs, athlete development courses and increase awareness for para sport. Monica will be visiting 10 provinces to meet youth and potential para athletes after returning from Tokyo.

Her coach, Chrispin Mware said that her turning point was 2018 when she joined the training program with Nippon Sport Science University (NSSU), and people recognized her. After she won a gold medal in 400m and silver medal in 200m at World Paralympic Athletic Grand Prix 2019 in Dubai, she was invited in the high-performance program. Monica said “It gives me power and courage. It is not easy to be known by many people in many countries. I need to bring out the best result for the sake of those watching me.”
