【Project Activities】

Using hospitals as social resources within the community, and working through Community Learning Centres (CLCs), this project aims to improve residents’ well-being—including health promotion—based on the “Healthy Hospital” concept of “making the whole community healthier.” As part of this, the project seeks to enhance health promotion and mutual understanding among residents, and introduced Takkyu Volley as a tool to support those aims.

【Project Background】

Professor Ichiro Kawachi (Harvard University) proposed the Healthy Hospital concept, which Professor Hideki Yamamoto of Teikyo University and colleagues have been implementing in Tokyo. After Teikyo University partnered with a university in Kenya, the concept was also expanded to Kenya. As part of efforts to improve people’s health and community wellness, introducing Takkyu Volley—an inclusive sport that a wide range of people can easily join—became one component of the project.

【Project Objective】

Under the Healthy Hospital concept of “making the whole community healthier,” the project aims to improve well-being, including residents’ health promotion. Along with support for education and employment and improving health literacy (preventive medicine), it also aims to foster understanding of health, cooperation, and respect through sport.

【Outcomes】

Takkyu Volley equipment was donated to four facilities. In the workshop, 19 CLC-related stakeholders participated and a Takkyu Volley demonstration was conducted. At some CLCs that did not receive equipment, people even created their own equipment and began playing Takkyu Volley.
