Cooperation for the “Paralympic Sports Experience” Program (2024)
【Project Activities】
1) Continuous learning based on previous disability awareness experiences (conducted in 7th grade). 2) Cooperation for a program aimed at learning citizenship and leadership through the experience of three Paralympic sports: wheelchair basketball, boccia, and goalball.
【Project Background】
A staff member of the implementing organization, who previously served as a part-time instructor at the cooperating school, was consulted about organizing a para-sports experience session. Due to the positive feedback from last year’s program, we were requested to conduct it again this year.
【Project Objective】
To encourage students to reflect on collaboration with others and the resolution of social issues through para-sports experiences.
【Project Area】
Education through sports
【Methods】
Support for hosting events and tournaments
【Outcomes】
Unlike many one-off, single-sport para-sports events focused solely on disability awareness, this multi-year, multi-sport initiative stands out for its specific focus on teaching citizenship and leadership.
【Voices from Participants and Partners】
“The learning experience for the students through this program was highly significant, making it one of the most memorable events of the school year.”
【Challenges and Lessons Learned】
Because the implementing organization lacked specialized knowledge in citizenship and leadership, additional time was required to adjust the program content. This highlights the need to re-evaluate the intrinsic value of para-sports experiences.
