The third lesson study workshop was organized online for two days on February 27th and 28th. There were 3,835 registered participants, and more than 1,100 views watched in two days. As of February 28, 2021, it has been viewed in over 11,600 times on Facebook Live and YouTube.

This project has been providing Japanese expertise in the field of physical education since 2017 with the aim of developing the ability of PE teachers in Peru. In collaboration with Hiroshima University and Hiroshima Prefecture educators, we have invited Peruvian educators every year and dispatched experts from Japan to introduce lesson studies.

Since 2017, the 3rd workshop was the final activity of the project. On the first day, Professor Yoshimi Yamahira (International Budo University) gave a presentation on the theme of “Achievements and Prospects of Physical Education Class Research Projects in Peru”. Peru presented the “Lesson Research Guidelines for Physical Education Teacher Training and Training” from Dr. Hernando DÍAZ ANDÍA (National University of San Marcos) regarding the lesson research guidelines currently being formulated.

On the second day, Dr. Alexandre Kuga (Nagoya University of Economics) and Dr. Hernando DÍAZ ANDÍA (National University of San Marcos) were facilitators and had a panel discussion with five Peruvian people involved in the project.
In response to the questions asked by the viewers at the workshop on the first day, five panelists looked back on the lesson research activities in Peru and questioned how to develop lesson research in Peru for the future.

Kazuyuki Katayama, Ambassador of Japan to Peru, Deputy Minister of Education Killa Miranda Troncos, Director of Physical Education and Sports Bureau, Ministry of Education, Peru, Carlos Zegarra, Director of Physical Education and Sports Bureau, Dean of Education at National University of San Marcos, Miguel Gerardo Inga Arias, Dean of Education, and Mr. Kei Iwabuchi of Sports Agency also participated in the workshop.

At the closing ceremony, project leader Professor Kazuhiko Saito (Hiroshima University) described the process of working together toward the development of physical education and the results of bilateral unity and ties.

Feedback from Local Contacts :

Comments from Deputy Minister of Education Killa Miranda Troncos:
I am grateful for the opportunity for bilateral exchange through the lesson study workshop. Through the activities of SFT, various institutions in Japan and Peru were able to build good relationships. We believe that the "Lesson Study Guidelines" completed through this project, which will be conducted with teacher training in collaboration with Japan, will be a major step forward in physical education in Peru. I am truly pleased that such a workshop was held to enable bilateral teamwork and a very strong bond. Under the pandemic, we must seek new sports promotion. In order to lead a healthier life, I think it is a great and beneficial activity not only in terms of physical strength but also in terms of spirituality.
Comments from Carlos Zegarra, Director of Physical Education and Sports, Ministry of Education, Peru:
Focusing on physical education as an exercise tends to focus on competition and tends to be lost in terms of humanity, but lesson study shows that it returns to the starting point. I feel that lesson study is a method other than the curriculum that enhances the specialty of individual teachers. The Ministry of Education needs to continue to explore the value and importance of physical education subject, so I hope that there will be opportunities for learning in the future, and I would like to cooperate with the Ministry of Education next time.
Comments from Dean of Education, Mr. Miguel Gerardo Inga Arias, National University of San Marcos:
I am very grateful to have learned how important physical education is for human development through exchanges with Japan. I thought that such a workshop was very important for training people as a person and as a citizen, so I decided to co-sponsor the event. Through this workshop, I am very impressed that we can contribute to education and that we have the opportunity to build a deeper bond with Japan.
