【Project Activities】

Hosted a universal sports festival where local residents, regardless of disability status or type, could share sporting experiences and deepen mutual understanding.

【Project Background】

To promote community development through universal sports and build networks across different disability types as well as between people with and without disabilities, we introduced Japanese case studies in a seminar, which led to a strong local desire to host the event.

【Project Objective】

To establish a sustainable network among people with disabilities, and between those with and without disabilities, to support ongoing initiatives in para-sports and universal sports.

【Project Area】

Social integration through sports (Based on strengthening and protecting human rights)

【Methods】

Support for hosting events and tournaments

【Outcomes】

Created opportunities for individuals with physical, visual, and intellectual disabilities, along with those without disabilities, to share experiences and spend meaningful time together through sports.

【Voices from Participants and Partners】

“I was involved in the management of the Universal Sports Festa from the planning stage and served as a facilitator for Mölkky on the day of the event. The atmosphere was incredibly friendly. In universal sports, where anyone with a disability can join, we feel safe and included while playing. I hope these initiatives spread throughout Senegal. It is a sport for everyone—people with disabilities like myself, stroke survivors, and everyone else.” (Management member with a disability)

【Challenges and Lessons Learned】

Use this event as a catalyst to build broader social connections between welfare, sports, and education authorities, as well as with individuals with disabilities who are not typically involved in sports.
