Sports for Peace (2024)1

【Project Activities】

The Philippine Technical Committee Chair integrated the NVP Peace Program curriculum into JOSA’s domestic referee and coach training and delivered lectures.

【Project Background】

Amidst issues like power harassment and sexual harassment in the sports world, measures against violence and harassment are essential in obstacle sports, which is a youth sport. As the FISO referee and coach materials had weak coverage in this area, it was decided to strengthen it with the NVP program.

【Project Objective】

To learn to prevent violence and harassment in the world of obstacle sports by studying nonviolence, conflict management, and self-esteem.

【Project Area】

Education through sport

【Methods】

Curriculum Development Support

【Outcomes】

Referee and coach participants were able to recognize the importance of measures against harassment and violence.

【Voices from Participants and Partners】

“In this era, measures against harassment and violence are essential, but even when told what not to do, I didn’t fully understand it. The NVP program, with its innovative approach of allowing participants to put themselves in the shoes of those affected and setting role models, deepened my understanding.”

【Challenges and Lessons Learned】

The NVP program ideally requires two full days, but it was incorporated only as one agenda item in the referee and coach training. Consequently, it was undeniably rushed and superficial.
