Socialist Republic of Viet Nam: Introduction and Dissemination of the “Mizuno Hexathlon Exercise Program” for Compulsory Primary Education (2022)
【Project Activities】
Through negotiations with Viet Nam’s Ministry of Education and Training, instructor development, and demonstrations at pilot schools, the project promotes the introduction and dissemination of the “Mizuno Hexathlon Exercise Program” as a “Japanese-style physical education class” in compulsory primary education in Viet Nam.
【Project Background】
Since 2015, we have been dispatching Japanese trainers to the region and promoting the Hexathlon program through workshops as part of extracurricular activities at local elementary schools. Although our goal was nationwide expansion, the COVID-19 pandemic forced us to scale back the workshops. Meanwhile, we have continued negotiations with the Vietnamese Ministry of Education and Training. Building on the signing of a memorandum of understanding in October 2023 regarding the introduction of the program into compulsory education, we plan to accelerate its implementation in Vietnam by providing ongoing training to local physical education teachers.
【Project Objective】
Support the introduction and nationwide dissemination of the program in Viet Nam’s compulsory primary education and contribute to improving children’s physical fitness and teachers’ instructional capacity.
【Project Area】
Physical Education (School Subject)
【Methods】
Support for curriculum development
【Outcomes】
・In June 2022, President Nguyen Xuan Phuc presented our company president with a special certificate of appreciation for our past efforts to promote the Hexathlon program in Vietnam.
・In October 2023, the Ministry of Education and Training of Vietnam and our company signed a renewed memorandum of cooperation aimed at introducing the Hexathlon program into Vietnam’s compulsory elementary school education.
・Starting in January 2024, we presented the Mizuno Hexathlon theory to experts in Vietnamese physical education. After ensuring they fully understood the theory in detail, we discussed local challenges and countermeasures for its introduction into compulsory education.
【Voices from Participants and Partners】
【Challenges and Lessons Learned】
Continued alignment among stakeholders and sustainable implementation structures are necessary; strengthening local capacity and ensuring continuity in teacher training remain key.
