【Project Activities】

An online lecture series co-hosted by the Japan-Sri Lanka Baseball Friendship Association and Miyazaki University. It disseminates information online, both domestically and internationally, about the baseball situations in various parts of the world, which are completely different from Japan, in cooperation with organizations promoting sports globally, such as the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

【Project Background】

In 2021, when the COVID-19 pandemic spread globally, international travel became impossible, and international exchange through sports, including baseball, was severely restricted. In response to this situation, the project was launched by calling on stakeholders to contribute something constructive.

【Project Objective】

To introduce the baseball situations in various countries, as well as their cultures and tourist attractions, thereby encouraging many people to take an interest in the world. This aims to connect to human resource development through baseball, peacebuilding, and regional revitalization efforts.

【Outcomes】

Since its launch in FY2021, the lecture series has been held 60 times by the end of FY2024. Various ripple effects have emerged, such as the expansion of support for baseball promotion due to strengthened horizontal networks among organizations.

【Challenges and Lessons Learned】

A challenge is the weak approach to high school baseball coaches. The lecture series is scheduled to continue in FY2025, and we aim to make it a program that helps high school baseball coaches attend and broaden their perspectives, including looking at global baseball, to facilitate education and coaching with a wider view.
