【Project Activities】

The Karate1 Premier League, organized by the World Karate Federation, is an international tournament that brings together the world’s top athletes. A total of 284 athletes participated from 46 countries and regions.

【Project Background】

The Japan Karate Federation hosted the Karate1 Premier League in Fukuoka City. With Fukuoka Prefecture, Fukuoka City, and karate organizations across Kyushu working together, the event was implemented as an Olympic legacy initiative.

【Project Objective】

Sustain the momentum heightened by the Olympics, raise awareness of karate-do, and promote international and local exchange.

【Methods】

Support for events and competitions

【Outcomes】

With increased media exposure, the event effectively recreated an Olympic-level atmosphere. Awareness of karate-do rose among residents of Fukuoka Prefecture and the Kyushu region, and participants’ recognition of Fukuoka as an international city also increased. Various accompanying events promoted both international exchange and local exchange.

【Voices from Participants and Partners】

Participants from many countries rated the event highly, citing event operations, staff support, and the clean environment. Many staff members also expressed how moving it was to complete a hand-made international event together with the local community.

【Challenges and Lessons Learned】

Coordination with the World Karate Federation and improving cost performance.
