In Vietnam, which has seen improved living standards amid rapid economic growth, the obesity rate among children is as high as over 40 percent, according to the WHO. The Vietnam Education and Training Ministry acknowledges that it is a social challenge for the country to promote understanding of child obesity as well as appreciation of the benefits of exercise and sports. The Ministry also considers it essential to improve the quality of physical education. Mizuno Corporation has developed the Mizuno Hexathlon, a fun exercise program for children. The program has already been implemented in some elementary schools in Japan. Keeping in mind the SDG philosophy of Leave No One Behind, Mizuno has been working on this project to promote the widespread adoption and implementation of the Mizuno Hexathlon in Vietnam’s public education. Its purpose is to spread the joy of exercise to all the 7.2 million elementary school children in the country as well as to achieve the goal of the Japan Sports Agency’s Sports SDGs initiative that works to overcome social challenges through sports.

Mr. Seigo Morii, Mizuno: Comments from the Project Organiser

Feedback from :

Amid the COVID-19 environment, Mizuno has been working towards commercialising this project based on the cooperation memorandum that we signed with the Vietnam Education and Training Ministry in 2018. Specifically, in 2020, we signed a cooperation memorandum with a local quasi-state-run textbook company to sell the equipment necessary for implementing the Mizuno Hexathlon program, intending to include the Mizuno Hexathlon equipment on the Designated Physical Education Equipment List issued by the Ministry. Despite the uncertainties brought about by the COVID-19 crisis and other challenges, we are firmly committed to promoting this project, believing that while success or failure is in the hands of destiny, even destiny will bow if you work relentlessly.
