Held a table tennis tournament bringing together foreign residents and local Japanese people. The tournament aimed to promote exchange and cultural understanding among local children, immigrants from overseas, and their children.

We believed that table tennis, being a simple and accessible sport regardless of age or gender, is well-suited for multicultural understanding and exchange, and thus we implemented this project.

【Outcomes】

8 Japanese children and 4 adults, along with immigrants and their children from countries such as China, South Korea, and Vietnam, participated. When language was difficult, they used smartphones for translation, shared snacks and meals from their respective countries, and played rock-paper-scissors unique to each country, fostering multicultural understanding among both children and parents.

【Challenges and Lessons Learned】

The language barrier was more significant than expected, and there were cultural differences in consideration and attitudes. This highlighted the need for understanding and preparation on the part of the organizers.
