FY2024 JET Program Sports Exchange Advisor (SEA) Mid-Term Training (2024)
【Project Activities】
Current JET Program Sports Exchange Advisors (SEAs) were gathered from various regions across Japan for a three-day training program.
【Project Background】
The JET Program invites Assistant Language Teachers (ALTs), Coordinators for International Relations (CIRs), and Sports Exchange Advisors (SEAs) from around the world and places them across Japan. As of July 2024, approximately 5,900 individuals are engaged in language instruction and local international exchange activities.
【Project Objective】
To provide knowledge, skills, and information useful for their work and daily life, thereby making the work and life of SEAs smoother. It also serves as an opportunity for Japanese staff to deepen their understanding of international exchange activities through sports instruction in the region and to utilize SEAs more effectively.
【Project Area】
Sports Instructor Training
【Methods】
Human Resource Development
【Outcomes】
The training provided an opportunity for SEAs to enhance their skills through opinion exchange sessions, coaching demonstrations, and Japanese cultural experiences.
【Voices from Participants and Partners】
“It was good to be able to share coaching styles and problem-solving methods in other sports through the opinion exchange session.” (From a participant)”By studying various teaching methods through coaching demonstrations, I gained hints for coaching in my own specialized sport.” (From a participant)
【Challenges and Lessons Learned】
An experiential program where participants coached their specialized sport to others received positive feedback, so we would like to consider continuing it.
