FY2024 JET Program Post-Arrival Orientation (SEA Sub-committee) (2024)
【Project Activities】
An orientation was held for new JET Program participants who will be assigned to local governments across Japan starting in the summer of 2024. A sub-committee session was conducted for four Sports Exchange Advisors (SEAs) who will support local sports projects and provide coaching.
【Project Background】
The JET Program invites Assistant Language Teachers (ALTs), Coordinators for International Relations (CIRs), and Sports Exchange Advisors (SEAs) from around the world and places them across Japan. As of July 2024, approximately 5,900 individuals are engaged in language instruction and local international exchange activities.
【Project Objective】
Training of Sports Exchange Advisors.
【Project Area】
Sports Instructor Training
【Methods】
Human Resource Development
【Outcomes】
The SEA training included lectures on effective coaching methods and intercultural communication. Through these lectures, participants enhanced their skills as sports instructors, and the training content was designed to enable them to more effectively engage in sports projects in various local governments across Japan while enriching their lives in Japan.
【Voices from Participants and Partners】
“It was good to learn about the current state of Japanese children’s physical fitness from a scientific perspective in Japanese schools, and the roles expected of SEAs.” (From an SEA participant)
【Challenges and Lessons Learned】
To deepen understanding of physical education in Japan, we want to consider training content that includes not only classroom learning but also visits to elementary and junior high schools and other sports activity sites.
