FY2022 Budo Culture Exchange Project Connecting Japan and Hungary (Online) (2022)
【Project Activities】
Connecting venues in Japan and Hungary online, budo demonstrations were held from both sides. While showcasing the essence of Japanese budo, the event also introduced Hungarian budo culture and featured local demonstrations to facilitate mutual exchange.
【Project Background】
Conducted as an alternative to the annual “Japanese Budo Delegation Overseas Dispatch Project” due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic situation abroad.
【Project Objective】
To promote international understanding and the advancement of budo through exchange, while contributing to the friendly relations between Japan and Hungary.
【Project Area】
Promotion of sports
【Methods】
Hosting seminars and forums
【Outcomes】
Through video introductions and demonstrations, we shared how Japanese budo has spread widely overseas, evolving into a deeper cultural form by integrating with local cultures, and becoming a shared international cultural asset for people worldwide.
【Voices from Participants and Partners】
・”This project allowed us to feel the long history and achievements of budo exchange between our two nations; it was a truly precious opportunity.”
・”On the Hungarian side, it was moving to see enthusiasts of various budo disciplines, who had fewer opportunities to meet lately, gathering together and rejoicing in their reunion.”
【Challenges and Lessons Learned】
Considering the time difference and infection control measures, the Japanese demonstrations were pre-recorded. However, as live performances convey a greater sense of tension and presence, the method of presentation warrants further consideration for future events.
