Embassy Cup 2024 (2024)
【Project Activities】
A total of 8 teams representing 9 countries (with Australia and New Zealand forming a joint team), including Japanese teams and those from embassies of cricket-loving nations, competed in the tournament. Alongside the matches, the event featured cultural and food stalls and sports experience zones. Held in conjunction with a local festival, it offered general visitors a chance to enjoy an international atmosphere. Networking sessions involving ambassadors, embassy staff, local government and business officials, and players were also held to boost regional engagement.
【Project Background】
The event was organized to highlight the inherent international nature of cricket and to create an initiative that engages both the cricket community and the local host region.
【Project Objective】
To foster a diverse community that transcends nationality, race, and religion through cricket, sharing varied values and cultures. The project also aims to create networking opportunities between various communities, including participating embassies and the host region, to increase regional engagement.
【Project Area】
International exchange through sports
【Methods】
Support for hosting events and tournaments
【Outcomes】
The event attracted a large number of visitors. A wide range of stakeholders beyond the cricket community—including embassies, local government, businesses, exhibitors, and volunteers—participated, facilitating meaningful international and economic exchange.
【Voices from Participants and Partners】
“This was a landmark event for Japanese cricket and was excellently executed.”
“We are eager to continue our cooperation in the coming years.”
【Challenges and Lessons Learned】
Hosting the tournament and the festival simultaneously presented a risk of being hit by flying balls. Although safety nets were installed, some balls still escaped the boundary; therefore, more rigorous safety measures will be implemented in the future.
