ASIA Study Tour (An invitation Program in the Field of Sports Management) (2023)
The Chiang Mai Declaration on Strengthening ASEAN-JAPAN Cooperation on Sports toward 2030 (Chiang Mai Declaration) was adopted at the 4th ASEAN Plus Japan Ministerial Meeting on Sports (4th AMMS+Japan) was held in September 2023. The Declaration newly adds the “Sports Management” to the existing four priority areas of cooperation ((ⅰ)development of physical education teachers and coaches, (ⅱ)increasing participation of women in sports, (ⅲ)advancing sports for persons with disabilities and (ⅳ)anti-doping campaign and capacity building).
In order to implement the international cooperation through sport in the field of sports management (Sport Medicine and Sport science, etc.,), the Sport For Tomorrow Consortium(SFTC) secretariat in cooperation with the Japan High Performance Sport Center of Japan Sports Council (JSC) carried out a study tour intended for member organization of the Association of Sports Institutes in Asia (ASIA) which is a non-profit-making non-government organization focus on the high-performance sport as a platform on sharing the information and strengthening cooperation among the Asian countries.
Participants and programs in the study tour were considered the results of the survey on current needs and topics conducted by the SFTC Secretariat in 2022 and the Cambodia support projects in 2023 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of ASEAN-Japan friendship cooperation as well as the 70th anniversary of Japan-Cambodia friendship, persons with expertise in high-performance sport in Cambodia and Nepal were invited.
Focusing on the current needs and issues in the field of sports management especially for high-performance sport field in both countries, experts of the JSC High Performance Sport Center provided lectures on the topics of sports medicine and science, athlete pathways and other related themes. The participants also joined the site visit to the Japan Institute of Sport Sciences and the National Training Centre.

We hope this study tour could be helped to resolve issues and to develop the high-performance sport in Asia. And we also hope it was contributed to capacity development of stakeholders and strengthening organizational capabilities by sharing the knowledge and experience of the Tokyo 2020 Games as a legacy. We continue to work on further contribution in respect of international exchange and cooperation through sport. We also continue our efforts, strengthening its public private partnership and contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) utilizing Japanese experience through sport.
