Support for Physical Education Classes Through Sports Days in Preah Sihanouk Province (Cambodia) (2025)
【Project Activities】
This initiative involves students from a local teacher training college in Cambodia and Japanese university students collaborating to organize sports days primarily at elementary schools in Preah Sihanouk Province, with the aim of supporting physical education classes in these schools..
【Project Background】
This is a long-standing initiative to support physical education classes in Cambodia through sports days, carried out in collaboration with a local elementary teacher training college in Preah Sihanouk Province. The goal of these sports festivals in Cambodia is to showcase the results of regular physical education classes, and this project provides support for organizing these events.
【Project Objective】
The aim is to contribute to the realization of high-quality physical education classes in Cambodia through the implementation of these sports festivals.
【Project Area】
Physical Education
【Methods】
Support for Event and Competition Organization
【Outcomes】
We were able to organize sports days at two kindergartens and three elementary schools in Preah Sihanouk Province in collaboration with students from the local elementary teacher training college. Teachers from rural kindergartens and elementary schools provided direct assistance with the organization and participated in the competitions. After the sports days, the teachers expressed a desire to use the equipment provided to conduct physical education activities in their own classrooms.
【Voices from Participants and Partners】
“This was our first time organizing a sports day, and it was a great learning experience for us. Since I’ll be a primary school teacher in two years, I definitely want to hold one at my school too.” (Teacher training college student)
“It was a wonderful sports day program, and the equipment was fantastic for the kindergarteners. We definitely want to try implementing these activities on our own.” (Kindergarten teacher)
【Challenges and Lessons Learned】
We encountered the reality that both hardware and software support for rural kindergartens and elementary schools is insufficient. Therefore, we plan to continue these efforts next year, focusing primarily on rural areas.
