【Project Activities】

An exchange program for Japanese and Korean junior (high school) generations, where friendships were deepened through friendly matches and joint practice sessions.

【Project Background】

This project was established with government subsidies, primarily through JSPO/JOC, following the 2002 FIFA World Cup hosted by Japan and South Korea, with the aim of improving competitive skills in sports in both countries and promoting friendly relations.

【Project Objective】

To promote youth sports exchange between Japan and South Korea, thereby deepening mutual understanding and contributing to the improvement of competitive skills.

【Project Area】

Education through sport

【Methods】

Athlete Dispatch and Invitation

【Outcomes】

This was the 21st exchange program, and although the content has evolved since its inception, a gap in competitive ability remains. Therefore, the program is largely focused on international exchange. This international experience, shared among those participating in the same sport, is highly beneficial and contributes to the sound development of youth.

【Voices from Participants and Partners】

Participants from both teams have reported it as a very good experience, and it has become a regular event that is a widely recognized goal for high school teams.

【Challenges and Lessons Learned】

– Difference in balls (Japan: rubber, South Korea: leather)

– Difficulty in deciding participating teams and coordinating schedules

– The significance of improving competitive skills is less pronounced for the Japanese side.
