Kamaishi Kids Rugby International Exchange Program (2024)
【Project Activities】
We sent eight elementary school students from the city to participate in the “Kamaishi Kids Rugby International Exchange Program” (organized by the General Incorporated Association for International Exchange in Children’s Sports), which aims to promote international exchange centered on a tag rugby tournament to be held in Taiwan in May 2024.
【Project Background】
This program is implemented in “Kamaishi, the City of Rugby” to create opportunities for children to interact with people from Japan and abroad through sports, thereby contributing to the children’s growth and the revitalization of the city.
【Project Objective】
The project aims to facilitate exchanges with elementary school students participating from Taiwan and various regions within Japan (Kumamoto, Fukuoka, Hiroshima), while also expressing gratitude for the reconstruction support Taiwan has provided to date.
【Project Area】
Education through sports
【Methods】
Sending and inviting athletes
【Outcomes】
The project successfully achieved the objectives outlined above.
【Voices from Participants and Partners】
Reports indicated that the children actively engaged in interaction, with comments such as, “I actively approached others so I could interact with many participants,” and “Even when we couldn’t communicate verbally, I did my best to convey myself through gestures.”
【Challenges and Lessons Learned】
Aiming to be “KAMAISHI: Connecting with the World,” Kamaishi City will continue to promote exchanges with partner countries and work to nurture the youth who will shape the city’s future through international exchange.
