Physical Education Support Activities in Cambodia (2025)
【Project Activities】
Visited elementary schools in rural Cambodia and conducted physical education classes together with students from the elementary school teacher training college. In addition, teaching materials for physical education classes were created, and videos of practical physical education skills were distributed via SNS to contribute to the promotion of physical education teacher training.
【Project Background】
Although physical education classes are mandated by the curriculum guidelines in Cambodian elementary schools, many schools were found not to be implementing them. Therefore, support for physical education teaching materials, introduction of teaching methods, and provision of unit information to students at the elementary school teacher training college were initiated.
【Project Objective】
To provide activities that help Cambodian elementary school children discover the joy of physical activity, and the fun of cooperating and competing with friends. Also, to introduce physical education units to local elementary school teacher training college students and contribute to human resource development for implementing physical education classes.
【Project Area】
Education through sport
【Methods】
Event/Competition Support
【Outcomes】
Donated 4 sets of tamaire (ball-toss game) (960 balls, 8 baskets with poles), 4 tug-of-war ropes, approximately 600 origami medals, 16 balls, and 16 jump ropes to the elementary school teacher training college and 4 elementary schools. Additionally, lesson plans for the implemented units and explanatory videos were provided to the elementary school teacher training college.
【Voices from Participants and Partners】
Teacher NiiNii from Prouk Sar Primary School: “Japanese and Cambodian students collaborated to conduct physical education classes at my school. The children also enjoyed exercising with foreigners. I hope they will come again next time.”
【Challenges and Lessons Learned】
During physical education classes, multiple grades were conducted simultaneously, which resulted in some children having long waiting times and becoming bored. For the next time, it is necessary to devise ways for multiple grades to participate simultaneously without long periods of waiting.
