Baseball Clinic in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (2024)
【Project Activities】
This event focused on the further development of the “KL Cubs Baseball Club,” a community sports program at the International School of Kuala Lumpur (ISKL), Malaysia’s premier international school. Comprehensive sessions were conducted, including the formulation of practice menus covering basic skills and specialized coaching, as well as discussions on the philosophy of baseball.
【Project Background】
This event was realized through an invitation from Mr. Takayuki Terauchi (former Giants player, former Tochigi Golden Braves manager), a senior colleague of NB.ACADEMY representative Mr. Shibata, and the “KL Cubs Baseball Club” of ISKL.
【Project Objective】
Promotion of baseball activities in ASEAN countries.
【Project Area】
Improvement of Athletic Performance / Athlete Strengthening
【Methods】
Event/Competition Support
【Outcomes】
With the sponsorship of Tenma Hospital Group, a general hospital based in Malaysia offering Japanese medical standards and hospitality, we had the opportunity to conduct joint practice sessions with the “Harimau Youth Baseball Club,” mainly composed of Japanese residents. This achieved the project’s goal of international exchange through baseball. Furthermore, these activities are linked to the “Asia Koshien Tournament” to be held in Indonesia. We are not only dedicated to promoting baseball in each region but also expanding networks within local communities and among companies, contributing to cultural exchange through sports and future development. During an opinion exchange with President Sazali at the Malaysia Baseball Federation office, he deeply resonated with the purpose and vision of the tournament, and we were able to discuss future participation possibilities.
【Voices from Participants and Partners】
Mr. Takuto Fukuoka: “This time, we supported the holding of a baseball clinic in Malaysia by former professional baseball players Takayuki Terauchi and Shogo Shibata. Observing the clinic directly, I saw children from Malaysia, America, Korea, and Japan enjoying baseball together. I felt the wonderfulness of international exchange through sports and its future potential, connecting friends. (Mr. Takuto Fukuoka)”
【Challenges and Lessons Learned】
While this baseball clinic targeted international schools and Japanese teams, similar to the situation in Thailand, opportunities to reach out to local Malaysian children were limited. This is a challenge for the future.
