【Project Activities】

An international tournament for U15 boys and girls held to celebrate the 200th anniversary of rugby’s birth and the hosting of RWC 2023. Overall rankings are determined across three categories: rugby sevens, “Rugby Short” (video production), and “Rugby Chef” (cooking). Beyond matches, the tournament also promotes cultural exchange and leadership development leveraging rugby’s educational value.

【Project Background】

The organizer approached us about participating, primarily inviting teams related to RWC 2023 participant nations.

【Project Objective】

(As a participant, not an organizer)
1) Through international exchange in sevens matches and various programs, foster respect for others, build qualities as a “global citizen,” and support personal growth through these experiences.
2) Through this activity, support the growth of young people who are willing to proactively develop as global citizens and as rugby players.

【Project Area】

Education through Sport

【Methods】

Dispatching and hosting athletes

【Outcomes】

(As a participant, not an organizer)
1) Participants became more proactive in English communication and intercultural understanding.
2) Participants deepened understanding of Japan and were able to share and communicate Japanese culture to overseas players and volunteer staff.
3) Participants expressed gratitude to tournament volunteers and deepened their understanding of event operations.

【Voices from Participants and Partners】

“Japanese players always greeted us energetically, followed rules even off the pitch, and showed an excellent attitude.” (Tournament operations staff)
“I used to dislike English, but I now want to study English so I can have deeper conversations with friends around the world.” (Participating player)

【Challenges and Lessons Learned】

It would have been even better if we could have presented the non-sevens programs more concretely at the recruitment stage.
