【Project Activities】

For children in Viet Nam who love baseball, former professional baseball players from Japan visited the country to conduct baseball clinics and exchange activities. We also held a baseball tryout session to create an opportunity for children with no baseball experience to experience the sport.

【Project Background】

A Japanese resident in Da Nang saw our SMBP activities for Manila slum communities on social media and approached us with a request: “Please bring a baseball exchange event to Viet Nam as well.” This proposal led to the planning and realization of the program.

【Outcomes】

In the clinic for local baseball teams, participants learned the importance of basic training and how to use their bodies by directly watching former professional players in action. In the baseball tryout session with Japanese expatriates, children from a Japanese supplementary school, and Vietnamese junior high school students, many children—who knew of baseball but had lacked facilities, equipment, and opportunities—were able to discover the appeal of the sport and develop interest.

【Challenges and Lessons Learned】

Because we ran multiple baseball clinics at multiple locations, the schedule was extremely tight.
