In Thailand, we held discussions on curricula for physical education teacher development. The discussions deepened our understanding of Thailand’s teacher-training system and curriculum, particularly the current situation and challenges in preparing health and physical education teachers.

At the request of Thaksin University (Thailand), we visited the site. The university showed strong interest in our past initiatives and expressed a desire to actively incorporate Japan’s teacher-training system.

This initiative was implemented primarily as part of cooperation to develop physical education teachers in ASEAN countries.

【Outcomes】

Through meetings with faculty and staff at Thaksin University’s Faculty of Education, we agreed to move forward with mutual cooperation in educational research and practice. As the university is seeking a comprehensive cooperation agreement with us, we confirmed that we will continue discussions toward signing an agreement between the two university presidents at the next opportunity.

We received a warm welcome from the dean and faculty/staff, and felt the high expectations for this project. We also realized exchanges with the university’s students and local schools, and heard requests—through direct dialogue—for the latest educational insights.

【Challenges and Lessons Learned】

There were no major barriers to the local visit, which suggests Thaksin University is trusted strongly by the community. Multiple pre-trip online communications (Zoom and LINE) with local staff likely helped prevent misunderstandings.
