Cooperative Initiative for Volleyball Promotion and Performance Improvement (2023)
【Project Activities】
As part of efforts to promote volleyball in Nakhon Si Thammarat Province in southern Thailand, we conducted a volleyball clinic for junior-aged girls in the local area.
【Project Background】
A Japanese coach resides in the region, and through that connection our university faculty members and coaches traveled locally to hold the clinic. In addition, the mayor of Thung Song City in the province has previously stayed in Japan and expressed a desire to adopt Japanese coaching methods, which helped make this initiative possible.
【Project Objective】
Improve volleyball skills among the junior generation in Thailand.
【Project Area】
Performance Enhancement / Athlete Development
【Methods】
Dispatching and hosting coaches and instructors
【Outcomes】
Participants in Thailand showed a willingness to apply techniques learned in this training in game-format practice sessions. Local public officials—including the mayor and superintendent of education—also demonstrated strong interest in Japanese coaching methods. (Indirect beneficiaries in Thailand: 100 people)
【Voices from Participants and Partners】
Through this initiative, Thung Song City expressed a strong desire to deepen cooperation with the university and use it for local sports promotion. Both sides also confirmed that sports exchange with the junior generation can serve not only for technical coaching but also as a tool to deepen mutual understanding.
【Challenges and Lessons Learned】
To advance cooperation between a city and a university, some understanding of the local flow of official documentation is necessary. Because the pace differs from Japan, flexible responses that align with local culture and customs are essential.
