JENESYS Japan-Cambodia Sports Exchange (Budo) (2023)
【Project Activities】
Invited high school, university, and graduate students from Cambodia to Japan to engage in exchange through Budo.
【Project Background】
Implemented as one of the program themes.
【Project Objective】
Identifying and nurturing pro-Japan individuals and strengthening international communication.
【Project Area】
Education through sports
【Methods】
Invitation of high school, university, and graduate students
【Outcomes】
Promoted understanding of Japan and mutual understanding; participants shared their program experiences on SNS and other platforms.
【Voices from Participants and Partners】
Participant: This program was absolutely wonderful. I wanted to see even more demonstrations of other martial arts. Participating in this exchange program was a great experience for me and the others. I was able to deepen my understanding of Japanese history, heritage, and places that I didn’t know much about before. (University Student)
【Challenges and Lessons Learned】
Since the exchange was conducted under the broad category of “Budo,” we provided lectures on the overall history and appeal of Japanese martial arts and interaction with stakeholders, but the actual hands-on experience was limited to Karatedo. Incorporating observations of several other martial arts would further deepen understanding and should be considered for the future.
