【Kenya】Running Event for TICAD VI, Elimisha Dada Race 2016
With TICAD VI being held in Nairobi, the capital of Kenya, on August 27th and 28th, 2016, the Japan Sport Council (JSC) held a running event to deepen exchanges between Japan and Africa through sports. This event was co-sponsored by JSC and the local NGO “Light of Hope Youth Initiative”, with the cooperation of SFTC member organizations, JICA Kenya office, and Japan Overseas Cooperation Volunteers working in Kenya.
The event was attended by 1239 people from 30 groups including elementary schools, junior high schools, special schools, universities, groups for the disabled, and NGOs, and enjoyed the relay marathon (Nanairo Ekiden), 10k marathon, and adapted sports experience. It was an opportunity for participants of different nationalities, ages, affiliations, and grades to interact and feel the importance of helping each other in society through sports.

Comments from Mr. Duncan Nzangi, President of the Light of Hope Youth Initiative:
Under the theme of Elimisha Dada (Education for women!), We provide educational support for girls in collaboration with multiple schools. It was great that many people, including children, adults, people with disabilities, Japanese people, and Kenyans, came to this event. I'm really thankful to you. I would be happy if we could continue to build cooperative relationships.
