【Botswana】JOCV Provides Online Judo Event
JOCV judo volunteer members dispatched overseas to teach judo and the Judo3.0, a Japanese non-profit organisation, collaborated to hold an online judo event, connecting Japan with Botswana. The event attracted many people, including Botswana judo athletes who are students of the JOCV judo members; the attendees from Japan included people related to judo, JICA officials and members of the public. It was a good opportunity for the Japanese participants to learn more about Botswana, judo in Botswana and the activities of the JOCV members there. It also encouraged Botswanan judo athletes to prepare for future international competitions and the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.
During the two-hour online event, the JOCV members spoke about Botswana and the history and promotion of judo there; they also reported their activities in Botswana. The Botswanan athletes were then asked to answer questions such as why they started practicing judo and what their future goals are. The participants were then divided into mixed groups of Botswanan athletes and Japanese participants for an exchange session. At the end of the event, Japanese participant comments on this event included “I was very impressed with this event,” and “I want to continue to support judo in Botswana.”

This event was a great opportunity for me to talk with many Japanese people. I want to perform well at the Tokyo Olympic Games next year and show this to the Japanese people who supported me.
