5th International Seminar of Budo Culture for Foreign Exchange Students and Embassy Staff (2023)
【Summary】
5th International Seminar of Budo Culture for Foreign Exchange Students and Embassy Staff took place from 3 (Fri) to 5 (Sun) March 2023. The seminar provided 47 Foreign Exchange Students and Embassy Staff from 22 countries and regions with lectures and practical training on the history, theory and techniques of traditional Japanese martial arts, as well as hands-on seminars in nine modern budo arts.
【Project Objective】
Through lectures and practical sessions, and through practical experience in each of the nine modern budo arts, the purpose of the seminar is to provide foreign exchange students and foreign embassy staff in Japan with knowledge on the history, theory and techniques of the traditional Japanese culture of budo. It is hoped that the seminar will contribute to the international understanding and development of budo and foster international goodwill.
【Activities/projects】
Foreign exchange students in Japan, foreign staff members of embassies or consulates in Japan, and foreign budo practitioners recommended by affiliated budo federations were invited to learn budo arts through lectures, model demonstrations by instructors, experience of nine budo arts and presentations by participants.
【Outcome】
〇 Participants were able to experience nine different budo arts and learn about Japanese culture through the budo arts.
〇 Interest in the budo arts deepened, with participants expressing a desire to find a dojo and to further deepen their knowledge of the budo arts.

Although the participants came from different countries, during the time we shared in budo arts, we could see that they were trying to understand each other and to treat each other in a cooperative manner, and we were able to promote international friendship and goodwill through budo arts.
