RETURN TO RUGBY – Webinar for Resuming Rugby under COVID-193

The Japan Rugy Football Union (JRFU) produced a video for rugby players in Asian countries to introduce the resumption of Japanese rugby and their efforts to popularize it under the circumstances of COVID-19. Focusing on the tag rugby event that was held in Noshiro City, Akita Prefecture, the host town of Jordan in November 2020, we explained the efforts of Japan Rugby from the top league to the community to take measures against infectious diseases when they resume sports.

On February 20th, when the top league started, we organized a webinar where rugby players from Asian countries exchanged opinions on resuming practice and the challenges they faced. Japanese rugby officials shared information on the development of women’s youth national teams and rugby promotion activities in local clubs.

Comments from Mr. Mohammad Obeid, Jordan Rugby Association:
I realized once again that countries with different cultures can come together online for rugby and work together to do their best during COVID-19 crisis. I think it was a good learning opportunity for the viewers. Comments from Mr. Nasser Hussain, Indian Rugby Association:
We were able to share the challenges under COVID-19 and the process for resuming rugby. Panelists from Japan, Jordan, Thailand, and India participated, and it was a wonderful content that summarized Japan's international contributions such as Sport for Tomorrow.

Japan Rugby is a leader of Asian rugby, and many questions about the spread and development of rugby were received from Asian countries. We look forward to the continued support for the Asia Rugby family in the future.
