11th Cheerleading World Championships (2023)

A world championship to determine the world’s No.1 in cheerleading and cheer dance, with national teams from IFC member countries competing while also promoting international exchange and friendship.
【Project Background】
This international competition is hosted by the International Federation of Cheerleading (IFC) and the Japan Cheerleading Association. The event is held biennially, but due to the global COVID-19 pandemic it was suspended and this tournament was the first in four years.
【Project Objective】
To determine the world’s No.1 in each category of cheerleading and cheer dance among IFC member national teams, and to promote healthy youth development as well as international exchange and friendship through the event.

【Methods】
Support for events and competitions
【Outcomes】
Among IFC members, 123 teams from 17 countries/regions participated (1,092 people). The Japan national team achieved outstanding results in many categories, including an 11th consecutive title in the senior women’s cheerleading division and winning the co-ed division—demonstrating Japan’s high technical level to the world.
【Voices from Participants and Partners】
“Although we did not place, we were moved and inspired by the performance of the Japanese team that won. After returning home, we want to use this as a reference to improve our cheerleading skills.” (Indonesian athlete)
【Challenges and Lessons Learned】
At the previous world championships, 31 countries/regions participated. Although this event returned after four years, some countries chose not to participate due to insufficient practice after COVID-19 restrictions or domestic circumstances, resulting in participation from 17 countries/regions.
